HP Pavilion DV9000 Notebook Review
HP released another new notebook under DV series, the HP Pavilion DV9000 which is powered by a Mobile AMD Turion 64 X2 dual-core processor running on Microsoft Windows XP Professional with an optional choices of Windows XP Home or Windows XP media Center Edition 2005. It boasts a 17-inch WXGA+ TFT LCD with resolutions of 1440 x 900 and an optional of WXGA+ Ultra BrightView or WSXGA+ (1680 x 1050) BrightView display, NVIDIA GeForce Go 7600 discrete graphics with 256MB dedicated DDR2 VRAM, dual hard disk drive option with combined capacity up to 240GB and an integrated wireless support for 802.11a/b/g Wireless LAN as well as Bluetooth technology which is only available on certain models. In addition, it also has a built-in 5-in-1 digital media card reader, four USB 2.0 ports, ExpressCard 54 slot and integrated Altec Lansing stereo speakers. Dual stereo headphone jacks with high-definition audio support (S/PDIF capable) and HP webcam with integrated dual stereo microphones would be an add-on choice. DV9000 has a larger screen than the DV6000 but the specifications are not good enough. If i am given the choice to choose, i would go for HP Pavilion DV6000, the one which i mention earlier ago. DV9000 weights only 7.8 lbs. No words on the availability and pricing yet.

Nikon Coolpix 8700 Overview

The new Nikon Coolpix 8700 is the latest in a long line of Nikon digital cameras that have helped define the state of the art in prosumer cameras from the early days of the digital revolution. With an 8-megapixel sensor, an 8x zoom lens with ED glass, and the panoply of advanced features we've come to expect from the upper end of Nikon's digicam line, the Coolpix 8700 is poised to compete at the very top of the "prosumer" digital camera market. At the same time though, optional fully automatic operation and a rich collection of 12 "scene" modes make it easy for even rank amateurs to use. All in all, the new Nikon Coolpix 8700 is a powerful package of photographic technology. - Read on for all the details!

Nikon Coolpix 880 Review & Battery

Nikon Coolpix 880

Small size, impressive images, and a surfeit of controls highlight the Coolpix 880. The camera has a boxy shape, but it's comfortable to hold and it'll fit into a large pocket. Our test images were among the best we've seen from any digital camera, with good detail, accurate whites, and bright colors. The only knock against this camera's images is some loss of subtle color shading. Nikon hit nearly every kind of setting or adjustment you can think of in this model. For beginners or for quick from-the-hip shots, there's a fully automatic mode. From there you can select manual, aperture priority, and program priority selections, all from a simple dial on the top of the camera. Shutter-priority is the only semiautomatic setting missing. You also get 11 "scene" modes that help you select the best combination of camera settings for difficult lighting situations, such as sunsets, portraits, and beach scenes. Additional exposure controls include two types of spot metering, center-weighted metering, and a matrix mode that calculates the best exposure by sampling across the entire image. If you really want to play it safe, you can turn on the camera's auto-bracketing option. The Coolpix 880 also has unusual focus options: You can pick one of five different areas in the viewfinder as the point of focus, useful if you take a lot of shots in which the main subject is off center. The Coolpix 880's battery life is also impressive--the disposable lithium battery lasted 227 shots in our tests. The Coolpix 880's flexibility is nearly its undoing. While the button controls are fairly easy to master, the camera has a huge number of menu options. To figure out all of the various options and combinations of settings you can use, plan on at least a couple of hours combing through the user manual. Moreover, the 8MB CompactFlash card you get at this price is insufficient to hold even one of the uncompressed TIFF images the camera can take. Nikon powers the Coolpix 880 with a nonstandard disposable battery (Duracell 245), which will not be as easy to find as AA batteries and costs more. If you find yourself burning though batteries, consider buying Nikon's optional rechargeable battery pack. You can take video clips of up to 40 seconds each, but unlike most digital cameras with such a feature, the Coolpix 880 does not include audio recording to go with the video. As noted, the camera has a manual exposure mode, but it's somewhat clunky to use and you get relatively few aperture settings. One unusual feature is the quick review mode, which displays your last shot as a quarter-size thumbnail within the LCD viewfinder. It can be handy if you are comparing the shot you just took with the shot you're about to take. Among the camera's more esoteric controls is a hue adjustment for the LCD screen, and a Best Shot Selector that takes up to ten shots in succession and then saves the one it thinks is the sharpest. We tested that feature, but because only one shot was saved, determining how well it worked was difficult. The software bundled with the Coolpix 880 is a bit out of the mainstream. In addition to a photo correction application (Software Architects' Great Photo), you get an image file management app and Altamira's Genuine Fractals Photoshop plug-in for scaling and compressing your images. You also get IPIX viewer, a QuickTime VR-like app that works only with Nikon's fisheye converter lens. The Coolpix 880 is a good choice for professionals and serious amateurs who understand the fine points of photography and want the maximum possible control over camera settings.
